SIGMOD Conference 2016

SIGMODPODS2016-logoACM SIGMOD/PODS Conference was organized from June 26th till July 1st in San Francisco, USA.  Director of Development and Innovation of Poslovna inteligencija, Marko Štajcer and member of FERARI Consortium from IBM Israel Fabiana Fournier, presented Complex event processing over streaming multi-cloud platforms in the FERARI approach.
The annual ACM SIGMOD/PODS Conference is a leading international forum for database researchers, practitioners, developers, and users to explore cutting-edge ideas and results, and to exchange techniques, tools, and experiences. The conference includes a fascinating technical program with research and industrial talks, tutorials, demos, and focused workshops. It also hosts a poster session to learn about innovative technology, an industrial exhibition to meet companies and publishers, and a careers-in-industry panel with representatives from leading companies. The European Data Forum

European Data Forum was organized on 29th and 30th of June in Eindhoven, Netherlands.The European Data Forum is one of the key European events for industry professionals and researchers from different areas of the IT industry. They had the opportunity to discuss new initiatives and opportunities related to data-driven innovation. The forum covered all aspects of innovation, from the infrastructure and tools to applications (including new products and services), as well as their social and economic impact. The Forum consisted of carefully selected mix of presentations ranging from cutting-edge innovative industrial applications of Big Data technologies, to upcoming innovation breakthroughs. Dražen Oreščanin, President of the Board of Poslovna inteligencija, presented FERARI project (Flexible Event Processing for Big Data Architectures) an international research project, funded by the European Union, in which Poslovna inteligencija is included along with some of the most prominent European experts in this field. The aim of this research project is to define the architecture and develop algorithms for efficient, real-time Big Data technology in the future. For more information about Forum click here.

Big Data Summer School

In collaboration with the Polytechnic of Zagreb (TVZ), Poslovna inteligencija organized Big Data Summer School in the period from 4th to 8th of July. Big Data Summer School is based on the perfect combination of theory and practice. Participants were introduced to the concepts, best practices which can be combined with real-world case studies and practical examples with lots of practical exercises and knowledge transfer sessions. Big Data Summer School is based on knowledge transfer with main pillars:

Our trainings and knowledge transfers are provided by academic researchers on Big Data concepts, environments and analytics as well as leading practitioner experts. All of our trainings are based on our extensive practical knowledge and expertise within different industries and business segments with lots of practical examples and exercises. Big Data Summer School is designed for students but also for all those who want to learn and test the Big Data concept and technology and to gain a deep practical knowledge in this field. School  Fees

Fee for Big Data Summer School (5 day) is 4.999 HRK (+VAT). Student of TVZ  will receive a 50% discount on this Big Data Summer School fee. Payment should be made in advanced before the start of the course, to an account specified by the organizers.

Course Logistics

9:00 – 16:30. This includes a one-hour break for lunch and two 15 minute coffee breaks.

Location: The Big Data Summer School will be held in Zagreb, at TVZ, The Lifelong Learning Centre.

Requirements: Our Lifelong Learning Center has computer equipment that is necessary to take this school and follow agenda so participants are not required to bring their own laptops.

About the Instructors


SLIKA 1Marko Štajcer is Director of Innovation & Development department in Poslovna Inteligencija. Graduated on University of Zagreb on Faculty of Organization and Informatics, Information Systems, 2008. After graduation Mr. Štajcer started working at Poslovna inteligencija where he gained huge experience in the field of data warehousing systems, data integration, business intelligence and Big Data analytics on numerous national and international projects. Today, Mr. Štajcer is director of Innovation and development department in the same company, where he is responsible for research and the introduction of new technologies and the development of Big Data applications. He also participates in complex projects of data integration and advanced analytics in the role of system architect, lead consultant and project manager.

lada banicMs. Lada Banić is senior consultant in BI department and works on innovative projects that consolidate data mining, text mining and big data technologies. She has graduated from the Faculty of Science and Mathematics, University of Zagreb. She has also finished international program: Diploma Study in Management (for engineers) also on Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb. She is working as a consultant in PI (since 2008). Before that she worked in different companies and on different projects some of which are: Hendal market research company (Data Processing Manager, different market research projects, Internal audit), telecommunication company VIPnet d.o.o. (development of revenue assurance application, business processes development and reengineering, SOX project, reports and data analysis), Privredna banka (DWH project, design and development of application for personal bankers), Optima–osn, design and development of applications for retail and back office bank departments). She has specific knowledge in specific IT platforms, tools, and fields such as Data mining, Statistics, Modelling, Business process management, ARIS developer, Oracle, PL/SQL, Reporting services etc.

iva soricIva Sorić graduated in 2015 at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Science – Department of Mathematics. After graduation she joined the Innovation and Development department at Poslovna inteligencija. Since then she has been working on projects concerning Big Data analytics and actively participates in exploring new Big Data solutions.


hrvoje GabelicaHrvoje Gabelica is business intelligence consultant certified for data analytics and visualization in Tableau Software and Tableau User Group Zagreb leader. He has worked on various domestic and foreign projects on various business  intelligence platforms. Also he is author of 50+ articles about business intelligence, data mining and Big Data and guest speaker on conferences and faculties.


sergejMSc Sergej Lugović, MBA is a senior lecturer teaching Information Economy, Technology Entrepreneurship and e-business at the Polytechnic of Zagreb, Croatia. He’s also a PhD candidate at the Information Science department of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb. His research interests are information behavior and needs in intelligent socio-technical systems. He holds a Master of Science degree from Plekhanov Russian University of Economics and an MBA from The London College UCK. Along with his academic career, he had a business career in Moscow, London, and Zagreb, working for blue chip companies, for the government of the Republic of Croatia, in technology ventures, and in the fashion and the music industries. He holds and continuous education degrees from MIT (Big Data) and University of Amsterdam (Digital Methods). 

hrvoje appletHrvoje Appelt was awarded by Marija Juric Zagorka reword which hands out HND for the Investigative journalism. He is being working for leading Croatian media (EPH, HRT) for more than 10 years before going freelance work as journalist and pursuing further his passion for the hockey and ice skating. He was competing in the prestigious global Red Bull Crashed Ice championship in extreme skating. Currently he is building skate rings such as one at Kings Tomislav Square in Zagreb among others and spend time doing data journalism and finalizing his new startup Political Data that act as a main source supporting EU political ecosystem related data journalism. 



7th Controling Conference

controllingOn 8th of June this year, 7th Controlling Conference was organized at the Westin Hotel in Zagreb. Conference was organized by Poslovna učinkovitost in cooperation with Poslovna inteligencija. Controlling represents an extremely important function in management support in managing the business companies. In order for controlling to be successfully fulfilling its mission in business practices, controlling and management must know the latest trends in controlling and apply modern knowledge of controlling. The goal of this conference was to provide practical recommendations based on the presentation of renowned domestic and foreign experts from business practice and based on the book "CONTROLLING IN PRACTICE - Recent trends in controlling" to enhance the existing level of knowledge and facilitate the application of modern knowledge in controlling in practice. Moderator of the conference was Member of the Board of Poslovna inteligencija, Lidija Karaga. Among many interesting presentations and lectures, director of consulting for Performance Management, Slađana Krpić gave a lecture titled "Big Data and predictive analytics - drivers of transformation controlling".
